Many times, as Christians we try not to put God or Jesus in the same sentence with romantic relationships. However, the romantic partner we chose should bring us closer to God. Now, I do not mean that we should bring up God every chance in conversation. I am saying that it is imperative, as Christians, that the way we carry ourselves should be an indication to our dating partner that we live for Christ, thereby, them wanting to live that same life.
It is possible, in today’s world, to date another person who subscribes to the religion of Christianity or profess that they love God and Jesus, and pull you so far from God, because their mind, body, and spirit is in the world and not really for Christ. This person may indulge in personal gratification (fleshly desires that may be ungodly) and do or say things that may have you question their morals and values or even their integrity.
The reason why God should be in every aspect of your life, including romantic partners, is because this is the person that at some point may be the closest to you. This is the person you may marry, have children with, live with, share money and life with. Why not allow God to tell you who you should entertain (get to know on a personal level and romantic way). I urge you to allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in who you should date. Test their spirit, their character, their integrity, not their charm, looks, or their wallet. Now, I am not saying you should not be attracted to them or want financial security, but that is not the barometer of whether or not this person should be in your life or the partner God desires for you.
I know it sounds like a lot when getting into a relationship, but if you want God in your marriage, He should be present at the inception of your relationship. Nevertheless, it’s better late than never. The goal is to form healthy relationships that do not hinder your walk with God. Let’s get rid of situationships, entanglements, and soul-ties that brings us down and further from God.
